Research, To Ebook or Not to Ebook, That is the Question

March 2, 2012 | News,The stories,Tuning the instrument

Hi there!

I’m blogging today at History Hoydens about whether to use print books or ebooks for research. One lets me see the illustrations but the books are so big and heavy. The other lets me carry the books everywhere – but it doesn’t let me see the illustrations very well.

Decisions, decisions, decisions…

What do you think? How do you handle your research? Please stop by and chat, if you get a chance.

Going Back in Time with A Pen

August 5, 2011 | News,Tuning the instrument

Hi there!

Inkwell

I’m blogging today at History Hoydens about time travel in a book. How do authors wrap words around readers and sweep them into another place and time? What tricks do readers enjoy? How do authors pull off the research?

Please stop by and share your favorite escapes with words painted by a brilliant writer!

What Does He Look Like

April 5, 2011 | News,The stories,Tuning the instrument

Hey there!

Have you wondered what a book’s hero looks like? Trust me, nobody worries about that more than the author does! Sometimes the hero announces himself very early and sometimes he sneaks those little details in bit by bit.

Please stop by Fresh Fiction today, where I’m blogging about how Jake Hammond, THE SHADOW GUARD‘s hero, told me what the heck he looked like.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on favorite heroes and what you think they should look like.

Release Day Party

March 29, 2011 | Better than chocolate,News,The stories,Tuning the instrument

Bitten by BooksHi there! It’s March 29th and THE SHADOW GUARD is finally out and about in a store near you, both in print and e-book!

To celebrate, I’m holding a Release Day Party at Bitten by Books, complete with giveaway and chatter about the wacky things that happen while writing a book. I promise to hang out by my computer all day so I can answer your questions and keep on chatting, on any topic you come up with. (Okay, so maybe my dog Honey thinks I’m doing this so she can chase squirrels all day. But this is all good for everyone, right?)

Hugs and kisses to everyone! Please stop by when you get a chance!

History as Backstory

February 1, 2011 | The stories,Tuning the instrument

Say Hello to the Steam LocomotiveHello again! I’m blogging today at History Hoydens about how to sneak the historical background into a book’s beginning. (Hey, it’s backstory, isn’t it? Yet who wants to read a boring info dump? But it’s vital if it’s set in a different time and place from today’s world. Oh gosh, this is starting to feel more complicated than writing a contemporary novel…)

Please stop by and chat! I’d love to compare notes about books who flaunted the history from the beginning or surprised you with its importance. I’ve got examples ranging from SENSE AND SENSIBILITY to THE IRISH DEVIL to THE DEVIL SHE KNOWS to…
